Overdimensional Heavy Haul Driver

Job Summary:

The primary job duties will include safe operation and driving of tractor-trailers carrying over-dimensional loads (IE: Over width, height, length, etc.) using TTI-FSS-provided truck(s) and trailers. This position reports directly to and coordinates deliveries/pick-ups with Corporate Logistics Manager and, works in conjunction with each facility’s yard and S&R foremen. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed and always represent the company in a professional manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Support all TTI/FSS Company Safety Policies to ensure they are followed, and personnel and property are kept safe
  • Perform safety pre-trip checks including, Tractor, Trailer, Load, Tie downs, and Safety equipment
  • Maintain driver logs, trip sheets, and fuel logs
  • Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking, and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
  • Collect and verify delivery instructions
  • Report defects, accidents, or violations
  • Assist in pre-trip route planning and meet delivery schedules
  • As required visit job sites to plan over dimensional deliveries, confirm route runs, permits, and escorts organization
  • Communicate timely and completely when required

Additional Duties:

  • Additional responsibilities or duties may be required as needed in support of company operations.

Quality Standards

  • Must be able to read and understand drawings, codes, and specifications. Will ensure all established fabrication procedures are followed
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
  • Adhere to all safety requirements and protocols


Teamwork is essential in this position and the Assistant Shop Superintendent must have a positive attitude and be able to work effectively with all departments, managers, and staff.

Actively participate in Safety meetings and promote company safety culture while working closely with the safety department.


An individual must be able to perform each essential duty above average and always represent the company in a professional manner.  The requirements listed are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

The position requires a background in supervision, coaching, managing processes, process improvement, production planning and possess strong interpersonal skills.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ years of experience in the field (required)
  • Specialized training to include the use of 10, 13, 18, and 4-speed aux transmissions
  • Experience with stretch, drop deck trailers and steer dollies
  • Experience working with escort teams, checking the safety of loads, rigging, flag placement, and all requirements needed to transport loads safely

Language Skills

Must be able to communicate professionally and show respect both orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, other departments, and managers.


Reports to Facility Superintendent and Shipping & Receiving Manager.
